An Early Settler Passes Away

Maggie Griffin was born in Jassamine county, Kentncky [sic], October 26, 1858, and moved with her parents to Kansas in 1869. They settled on a farm 4 1/2 miles south of Gardner, where she goew [sic] to womanhood. In November, 1895, she was united in marriage to George Schuman af [sic] Oklahoma. To their union was born one daughter. Mrs. Schuman suffered for over 13 years of an incurable disease and finall [sic] passed to that brighter home on high, where there is no sorrow or suffering, Thursday, September 5, leaving behind three brothers, two sisters and a little daughter, 11 yesrs [sic] old, to mourn the loss of a loving sister and a kind and affectionate mother. For some years prior to her death the deceased made her home with her brother, John Griffin, 3 1/2 miles southeast of Edgerton. The funeral services were held from the Catholic church in Gardner, Saturday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Father Galvin, after which the remains were consigned to Mother Earth in the Catholic cemetery near that place.
