Johnson, Frampton, Artlip, Jones
Martha Ann Thomas was born about 1833 in Indiana but her parents have yet to be determined. She married Thomas C. Johnson in Owen County, Indiana in 1849 so she does not appear on any census by name with her parents.
After a process of elimination, the only family left that she could belong to is that of John Thomas born around 1801-1810 who had two females between the ages of 5-9 on the 1840 Owen County census. Information on this John Thomas has not been located yet
After her marriage to Thomas C. Johnson, she moved with him to Coles County, Illinois and appeared there on the 1850 census. They had one daughter born in Illinois, Mary E. Johnson, in May 1854.
From Coles County, the family moved to Desoto, Johnson County, Kansas and appear on the 1860 census; soon after, their second child, Thomas C. Johnson, Jr., was born. After Martha Ann’s husband eloped with the neighbor’s wife, Martha Ann (Thomas) Johnson marries the neighbor, William Walker Frampton, and they have a daughter, Helen Frampton born 1869. Martha Ann’s first daughter, Mary E. Johnson, married Homer Artlip in Desoto on 2 January 1870. Homer Artlip died in 1882 and is buried in the Desoto Cemetery. Mary E. (Johnson) Artlip then married a Mr. Jones. I do not know the first name of Mr. Jones or if he was from Desoto. They moved on to Topeka and were there when Martha Ann died in 1887. Any information on the Johnson, Frampton, Artlip, or Jones families from Desoto, Johnson County would be greatly appreciated.
