Missions
Missionaries were the first folks to immigrate to the Shawnee Reserve in Indian Territory prior to Territorial Kansas.
There were 3 missons established in what is now Johnson County. Each of the missions established a church or meeting house and provided religious instruction, classroom instruction, and instruction in agriculture, husbandry, and cooking, sewing and homemaking.
