In Memoriam
Maryland Bair was born in Allen county, Indiana, August 5, 864 [i.e. 1864]; she died at Waverly, Kansas, February 28, 1896. She was converted and joined the Methodist Espiscopal church early in life, afterword [sic] removing to Waverly, where she united with the Presbyterian church. She remained a faithful member of this body until her death, which occurred after six years of patient suffering. She was one of those who reflected Christ in her life. To know her was to love her. She bore her sufferings as one who believed that these afflictions were working a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. She was a staunch and faithful friend, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in adversity, and give freely of her loving sympathy to any who were in sorrow or bereavement. She was a girl of remarkable ability and great uprightness of character. Her faith in Christ was firm and steadfast. She had perfect confidence in God's power to keep her unto the end, and afterward (quoting her own words) receive her into that heaven above where all is one endless day of peace and happiness.
Her soul, escaped from earth's worn clay,
Has entered the realms of endless day.
She has clasped glad hands with the gone before,
In her Father's house on the other shore.
Our hearts are sad and lonely without you, Millie dearest, but our loss is your eternal gain.
Her funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Elliott, of Spring Hill. We laid her to rest on Sabbath afternoon, in Olathe cemetery, beside her beloved mother, awaiting the glorious resurrection morn. A Friend.
