An Old Settler Passes Away

After suffering the most excruciating pain for more that a year from the dreadful disease of cancer, Mr. Jeremiah Dwyer, an old settler of this vicinity, and a resident for nearly a year of Edgerton, died at his home in this city about 5 o'clock last Sunday morning.

Mr. Dwyer was born at Bawn Lehan, Parish of Castle Haven, County Cork, Ireland, September 15, 1840, and emigrated to America in 1864. He came to Kansas in 1876 and settled on a farm a few miles west of Edgerton. Here he reared his family and resided until about a year ago. He was a true specimen of the integrity and honesty of the Irish race.
The funeral services were held from the Assumption church in this city at 10 o'clock last Monday morning, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Fathet [sic] B.S. McGeary, who sang the Requiem Mass. At the conclusion of the church services the remains were conveyed to the Catholic cemetery, east of this city for burial, followed by a long procession of Protestant and Catholic citizens, who admired the life-long integrity, honesty, benevolence and brotherly love of this humble and unassuming man. It can be truly said of him that none knew him but to love him; none heard of him but to praise him.
The bereaved aged wife, sons and daughters and other relatives have the sincere sympathy of the whole community in their dark hour of sorrow and loss.
