Death of Mrs. Willard Hale
The sorrowful news of the death of Mrs. Laura Hale at Kansas City Monday, June 3, was a shocking surprise to her acquaintances and the many friends of the family in and around Edgerton. While it was known that she had been taken to the City to undergo a dangerous operation for the removal of a tumor, the operation was successfully performed Friday and she was reported as recovering from its effects. About 10 o'clock Sunday night, however, symptoms of heart failure appeared, and at 2 o'clock a.m. she died. Monday evening a group of sorrowing relatives received at the depot all that was mortal of their loved friend.
Mrs. Hale has been known to our people since March, 1874, the date of their marriage in Iowa City, Iowa. The happy couple came directly to the home Mr. Hale had prepared in this place. She was a woman who in a marked degree possessed the affection of relatives, the regard of friends and the respect of all. She lived to the age of about 40 years. Sad as the blow is to husband and other near relatives, their bitter grief may be assuaged in the memory of a life well lived and anticipation of a happy reunion upon the "other shore."
The funeral services were held at the family residence at 11 o'clock a.m. conducted by Rev. McEeatters[?]. After the sermon the I.O.O.F. lodge, of which Mr. Hale is a member, took charge of the remains and marched to the cemetery, completing the interment in an orderly and appropriate manner.
